Swiss-American artist and social media microcelebrity Mathilda Grace Heinz; M. gave us a sultry, undertoned acoustic pop track with what am i living for? as her freshman release this July. Today, POP ELIXiR dives in to M.!
The song is a somber monologue about the recompense associated with social media and M.’s struggles with her past relationships. The writing is raw and vulnerable, but notably alliterative in its expression. Heinz’s voice is perfectly balanced into the mix of the song, with wide panned background takes positioning the soft but crisply enunciated lead vocal down the center.
M.’s vocals reminded us strangely of slide guitars of country music. Production work from Benjamin Alasu is well balanced but leaves a lot of headroom for clear definition in the mix. The audiophile engineers here at POP ELIXiR ate this song up as soon as they heard it.
So what’s next? We’re unsure. M. has teased a number of tantalizing snippets on social media, causing some buzz in comment sections and reminding us of PinkPantheress‘ early tastes of virality. Given that the new artist already has a generous 1900 monthly listeners under her belt, and 12k+ streams in only a few short weeks, we’re inclined to think she will see a generous surge of attention in the next 4 to 6 months assuming her production quality stays on par or one-ups this first release. Overall we couldn’t be happier to slap on repeat and fall asleep to what am i living for?
We’ve added this to our POP ELIXiR playlist, check it out below, and stream what am i living for? on all platforms!
